Pangaea Scholar Programme

This is not a traditional academic award. The Pangaea Scholar Programme is a merit-based, 12-month talent development initiative delivered as part of Pangaea Genomics non-profit capacity-building mandate. It identifies, supports, and integrates high-potential students into genomic science, computational biology, digital pathology, public health research, and biomedical entrepreneurship, from Zambia, across Africa, and for the world.

We Go Far Beyond a Certificate and a Handshake

We invest in who you are becoming. Pangaea Scholars receive recognition; one-to-one mentorship with researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and innovators; hands-on training in genomics, digital pathology, and biomedical entrepreneurship; involvement in real research projects; micro-grant eligibility; and a structured pathway to fellowship and beyond. We are not only building scientists, but we are building the people who will lead African genomic science, translate it into public health impact, build the businesses that sustain it, and define the institutions that carry it forward. Africa does not merely contribute to the genomic age. Africa helps to define it, and so will you.

Who Should Apply

We are looking for undergraduate students currently enrolled at a university in Zambia or across Africa in any of the following disciplines: Biochemistry · Biomedical Sciences · Medicine and Health Sciences · Cytology and Histopathology · Digital and Computational Pathology · Genetics and Molecular Biology · Data Science and Bioinformatics · Microbiology and Parasitology · Pharmacology and Pharmacy · Related life or computational sciences.

We are looking for students in their second year or above. We particularly welcome applications from women, students from underrepresented institutions, and students with demonstrable interest in African health challenges. This is not a prize for the highest grade. We are selecting future builders: scientists, innovators, and entrepreneurs who will shape Africa’s genomic future.

The Three-Tier Pathway

The Pangaea Scholar Programme is a longitudinal journey, not a one-time award. High performers progress through three tiers of increasing engagement, responsibility, and reward.

Undergraduate Scholar

Recognition, mentorship, training access, and micro-grant eligibility. Open to all qualifying undergraduates across genomics, pathology, and related sciences.

Advanced Fellow

Selected from top Tier 1 performers after 6–12 months. Paid internship, real project involvement, authorship opportunities, and access to laboratory and digital pathology workflows.

Pangaea Associate

Top sustained performers. Priority hiring pathway, research leadership, and co-investigator roles on grants. Eligible for roles in both the genomics and morphogenomic intelligence divisions.
